SEPTEMBER

The place I belong to: ME & MY KG

Goal

Meet all the employees and schoolmates. Explore the place of kindergarten and surroundings with all the secret “sneak-holes”. Orient in Kindergarten facility and its surrounding. Decorate the classroom.

The place I belong to: MY NEW FRIENDS IN KG

Goal

Form the group identity. Involve new members into the group. Promote the rules. Start the new school year. Introduce daily program and regime. Work on hygiene and working habits. Responsibilities and daily activities of people in KG.

The person I am: THIS IS ME

Goal

Form the knowledge about the elementary human biology (organs, processes, functions). Measure and compare the human skills, functions, capacities. Support children to know each other better, their strengths and weaknesses, likes and hobbies, emotions. Support cooperation. Prepare and present the project.

The person I am: ME & MY FAMILY

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about family, family members, their roles particularly and in general. Become familiar with the meaning and importance of family. Learn to present the family via different means (drawing, role-plays, dance, dramatization, presentations, etc.). Perceive the family in wider concept (human families, animal families, plant families, etc.). 

OCTOBER

The place I belong to: ME & MY HOME

Goal

Talk about life in KG and at home and find the connections. Form and expand the knowledge about family and housing styles, rooms, furniture, address. Develop the spatial imagination and perception of architecture, types of housing in the context of regions and history.

The place I belong to: ME & MY CITY

Goal

Know the basic facts about the capital of Slovakia - Bratislava. Learn traffic rules and safe behaviour of pedestrians in streets. Form and expand the knowledge about transport means and life in the city. Orient within the surroundings of KG.

The place I belong to: ME & MY COUNTRY

Goal

Know the basic facts about Slovakia and other countries we come from – dominants, flags, capitals. Present various cultures and lifestyle. Work with maps and use simple geographic terminology. Talk about geography in the context of various countries and landscapes. Learn basic vocabulary, work with map and globe.

The way the things work: HALLOWEEN

Goal

Become familiar with the feast of Halloween and All Saint’s day and its traditions and symbols. Prepare the classes and decorations for feast. Work with emotions, handling fears. Talk about human life span: birth and death

NOVEMBER

The way the things work: I WONDER WHY

Goal

Support the convergent and divergent thinking. Work with encyclopaedias and scientific literature. Develop the ability of meaningful questioning and answering. Experiment, explore and survey the processes, principles, functioning and mechanisms.

The way the things work: AUTUMN COLOURS

Goal

Form the knowledge about colours and experiment with them. Focus on the basic facts about seasons and their typical features, proper clothing, human activities, autumn nature and biological processes. Work with natural materials using different techniques. Support the creativity of kids and divergent thinking.

The world around me: FOREST LIFE

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about fauna and flora in general with the respect to forest habitat and autumn time. Focus on forest animals and their simple biology; the way they live. Work with natural materials. + Preparation for Xmas party

The world around me: FROM a MOUSE TO a KANGAROO

Goal

Explore world of animals, endangered species and biological diversity in general. Form the knowledge about fauna and flora over the world: a range of plants and animals in the world, species and simple classification, surviving strategies. + Preparation for Xmas party

The person I am: I DON´T GIVE UP

Goal

Focus on solving problems and critical situations of various kind, safety and safety rules in various situations. Learn how to plan and prepare outdoor survival kit. Work with endurance, indomitability, self-esteem, self-confidence, overcoming self-restrictions and obstacles. + Preparation for Xmas party

DECEMBER

The person I am: I ALWAYS TRY MY BEST

Goal

Form the knowledge about Saint Nicholas feast in the context of past and present, advent traditions. Discuss moral principles, motivation to be “good” in everyday actions, self-evaluation, simple feedback principles. + Preparation for Xmas party

World around me: WINTER WITH NO LIMITS

Goal

Explore conceptual work with the story, listen, retell, create, dramatize, illustrate the winter stories.  Read most famous stories and fairy-tales with winter/Christmas topic. Prepare and show off the performance for parents in the context of Xmas time.

The place I belong to: CHRISTMAS OVER THE WORLD

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about Christmas with the respect to traditions, history, habits, intercultural diversity context. Support the presentation and speaking skills of kids while talking about their Christmas family customs. Learn about feasts in other cultures (e.g. Hanukkah, Advent, winter solstice…etc,) and meaning of festive days in human life.

JANUARY

The place I belong to:  HAPPY NEW YEAR

Goal

Become aware of the new year concept in connection to personal wishes and resolutions and various traditions connected to New Year. Be familiar with calendar, time line axis and event arrangement, action-result concept.

World around me: WINTER FUN

Goal

Expand the knowledge about winter as a season in a wider context – weather, activities, clothing, natural cycles, calendar, etc. Become familiar with typical winter fun activities, winter sports.

World around me: MAGIC SPACE

Goal

Form the knowledge about simple astronomy. Learn facts about universe and its features, big bang theory, planets, solar system. Discover simple physics quantities – magnetism and gravity.

World around me: A LONG TIME AGO

Goal

Become familiar with the concept of “time” in a long-term meaning. Form and expand the knowledge about history in context of humans (life in past, ancient civilizations) as well as history of Earth with the focus on geological processes, climate changes and features, extinct animals and plants (e.g. dinosaurs), fossils, palaeontology.

FEBRUARY

World around me: ONCE UPON A TIME

Goal

Expand the knowledge about simple history with focus on ancient times and middle ages. Form the knowledge about great civilisations and their contribution to world heritage, inventions, comparison of life in the ancient past and nowadays.

The place I belong to: ME & YOU

Goal

Discuss the importance of good relationships among people. Become familiar with the feast of Saint Valentine – meaning, history, traditions. Prepare decorations and presents. Develop pro-social skills and empathy. Get acquainted with names of positive emotions and how to show them.

The place I belong to: LIFE IS FULL OF BEAUTY

Goal

Become familiar with different types of genres and techniques in art. Learn facts about famous artists, aesthetics and fashion. Become familiar with basic principles of symmetry. Explore creativity, fantasy and originality in art.

Goal

Become familiar and work with books – formats, usage, importance, care, types. Form and expand the knowledge about different kinds of drama and literature genres. Work out the own book. Become familiar with the places where we can find the books. Learn how to treat books and why we need them.

MARCH

The way the things work: MY FAVOURITE STORY

Goal

Show & tell presentation. Conceptual work with the story – analysis (listening, retelling, dramatizing). Identify most important story features, describe characters, plot and moral of the story. Expand the knowledge about different kinds of stories and fairy tales.

The place I belong to: HOW MY GRANDPAS LIVED

Goal

Become familiar with simple history with focus on recent times. Focus on comparison of life and lifestyle in the past (our parents & grandparents) and nowadays. Comparing typical occupations, transport, money, housing, clothing, toys, games, hobbies, food…between present and past.

The person I am: I WANT TO TELL YOU…

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about languages and communication in general – human & animal communication, levels and kinds of communication (non-verbal, verbal, pictograms, signs, sounds, pictures, letters, gestures, etc.). Become familiar with TPR communication, disabled people and their ways of communication.

The place I belong to:  SPRING FESTIVALS

Goal

Become familiar with the feast of Easter – history, traditions, intercultural context, meaning, symbols. Prepare and create decorations and Easter symbols (symbols of spring). Form and expand the knowledge about spring as a season.

APRIL

The way the things work: LIFE IS A MIRACLE

Goal

Become familiar with life cycles of some animals, plants and human. Apply activities supporting understanding of birth, care and life time. Elementary understanding of life and death.

The way the things work:  SPRING

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about spring features, weather processes and proper clothing in spring time. Become familiar with basic human activities and changes in nature. Get acquainted with basic weather processes, weather features with the respect to Spring time.

World around me:  LET´S SAVE THE EARTH

Goal

Gain elementary knowledge of ecological thinking and habits – waste separation, water and energy saving, recycling, etc. Work with waste materials finding alternative usage. Expand the knowledge of human activities in the context of taking care of their surroundings and world environment.

The way the things work: HUMAN BODY FACTORY

Goal

Form the knowledge about simple biology. Gain information about human body, body parts, organs and their functions.

MAY

The way the things work: I AM ALL I EAT

Goal

Present and support the healthy life style. Form the knowledge about food, food processing and its influence on health. Become familiar with everyday activities connected to gastronomy. Classify and sort out the food.

The person I am: THE WORLD OF WORK & OCCUPATIONS

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about the world of work, jobs and occupations in the context of occupations of parents. Become familiar with the elementary concept of economy and value of money.

The person I am: EVERYBODY NEEDS MOM

Goal

Support the speaking skills and positive attitude via talking about own mother, her role and importance. Preparing presents and performance for mom. Become familiar with the knowledge about motherhood and the role of mother among animals.

The place I belong to: HELP!

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about the community helping professions: doctor, policeman, soldier, postman, teacher, pharmacist, firefighter, etc. Learn to solve potentially dangerous situations: “I get lost”, “I am sick”, “I cut myself”, ”I see fire”, etc.

The person I am:  BEING SMALL IS FUN

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about the life of kids in various countries and cultures. Become familiar with the world of children - rights, responsibilities, play, learning, etc. Experience the roles and positions of different people. Support the empathy, creativity, fantasy. Become familiar with diversity of play, cooperation, rules, assertiveness, conflict solving, fair play, respect for each other.

JUNE

The world around me: OVER THE WORLD IN 5 DAYS

Goal

To learn simple geography. Form and expand knowledge about climates, habitats, geo-political and cultural aspects, vocabulary. Exploring all the continents. Learn how to work with map and globe.

The person I am:  ME AND MY DAD

Goal

Support the speaking skills and positive attitude via talking about own father, his role and importance in the family. Preparing presents and performance for him. Become familiar with the knowledge about fatherhood and the role of father in general.

The place I belong to: SCHOOL vs KG

Goal

Gain basic information about educational institutions. Learn how to differentiate life in school from life in kindergarten and their basic features. 

World around me: GET READY FOR HOLIDAYS

Goal

Being able to compare school and holiday regime. Understand the importance of rest and making balance between work and rest. Form and expand knowledge about travelling, means of transport and rules for travelling.

JULY

World around me:  SUMMER TIME

Goal

Form and expand knowledge about summer and its features, weather processes and risks in the summer time. Learn about proper clothing, human activities and safety rules.

World around me: SUMMER BY WATER

Goal

Play and experiment with water. Learn the safety rules when we stay at the beach/ by river – essentials for staying at the sun, essentials for swimming in water etc. Get acquainted with water habitat, water animals and plants. Form and expand knowledge about types of water all over the world (rivers, lakes, seas, oceans).

The way the things work: CAMPING IN the MOUNTAINS

Goal

Develop gross motor skills. Form and expand the knowledge about the mountain habitat in general, safety rules, ecological behaviour, survival skills (knots, fire setting, shelter building, first aid kit, orientation in the forest, etc.). Solve the practical problems.

Goal

Develop and support empathy and pro-social skills. Become familiar with the meaning and importance of friendship and positive social interactions. Apply pro-social and cooperative games.

AUGUST

World around me: I SPY

Goal

Become familiar with fauna and flora in the context of meadow habitat – invertebrates, insects and their benefit for people, plants & flowers. Developing the observation, concentration and paying attention to details. Focus on principles of nature protection, basic rules when going to the nature.

The way the things work: SUMMER AT GRANDMA

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about the countryside and domestic animals – importance, kinds, care, food processing, etc.

The person I am:  PETS ARE NOT TOYS

Goal

Form and expand the knowledge about animals with the focus on pets. Become familiar with the kinds of pets, taking care of them.

The person I am: CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS

Goal

Develop gross motor skills. Form and expand the knowledge about summer sports, activities, equipment. Become familiar with the importance of sport and psycho-hygiene for humans. Understand the principles of fair-play.
